THE COMPETITION
Access to the film industry can be challenging and creative individuals can often face numerous obstacles when trying to produce their own work.
We are launching an annual short film competition with a difference.
Whether you’re a first time writer, seasoned director or aspiring cinematographer, we want to give you the opportunity to work with Large Format Films to bring your idea to life.
ROUND 1
THE ENTRY
Enter your script via our portal hosted by our friends at Centerframe.
ROUND 2
THE SHORTLIST
A Top Ten will be selected and asked to submit a treatment for their script.
ROUND 3
THE FINAL
The top three will be announced at a presentation evening and the Judges will choose their winner.
THE FORMAT
Each script will be assigned a number and therefore judged blind.
The shortlisted applicants will be invited to a networking morning where they will get advice from industry professionals on how to approach their treatment. This will also be a chance for them to meet the rest of the Shortlist.
The Top Ten will rehearse and shoot a short extract from their script at the Large Format Films Studio (produced and edited by our inhouse team) - these scenes will be shown to the judges along with the treatment deck at the presentation evening.
Our presentation evening will be full of industry professionals and a chance for our finalists to network and showcase their film to a room full of potential supporters.
Our high profile judging panel will watch the extracts and listen to the writers pitches, supported by their treatments and decide on their winner.
We will host a screening to showcase the winning film ahead of it beginning its festival run.

THE PRIZES
Unlike any other Short Film Competition the winners prize will be tailored around what you need to get your film made. Whether that’s a high end cinema camera and lighting package, full production support, or an intro to the right director or cinematographer we are here to support you.
FIRST
Will receive £5,000 towards getting their film made, full support from Large Format Films, a £500 CVP voucher and a screening of their finished film to industry professionals.
SECOND
Will receive a £250 CVP voucher.
THIRD
Will receive a £150 CVP voucher.
THE CRITERIA
Large Format Short Films Competition is open to people between the ages of 18 and 35 based in the UK.
Your script should be no longer than 12 minutes (we’d recommend working to a page equating to a minute).
Whilst we see this as an opportunity for aspiring filmmakers to make their first movie, gain experience, and enter the industry, we also want to appeal to those already working in the business who have an itch to scratch and get their short film made. So whether you’re new to the industry or a veteran script writer, a first time director or a seasoned pro, a cinematographer or even a videographer, we want to hear your story.
We also know that not all writers want to direct the film they’ve written and if that’s the case we will connect you with the right people to get your script made.
